The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has urged the newly appointed
Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund Prof. Suleiman
Bogoro to ensure that the fund is strengthened for better performance
in line wity the Education Transformation Agenda. The group in a
statement signed by its National Coordinator Nwokoma Messiah and
Publicity Secretary Ibinabo John said it is very important that the
fund is strengthened so as to achieve success in the tertiary
education sector.
The group said the issue of building better and sustainable
infrastructure in the nation’s education sector cannot be over
emphasised hence the need to have a very functional administration of
the fund so as to drive home President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s
transformational agenda in the educational sector.
While congratulating the new Executive Secretary of the Fund, the
group said he should remain steadfast and ensure that he brings in a
strong sense of professionalism in the administration of the fund. The
group said it will continue to kick against the low allocation of
funds to the education sector stressing that if the country has to
develop, the education sector must be given serious attention by
governments at all levels.
The group said it since the Tertiary Education Trust Fund TERTFUND
has a substantive Chief Executive, it should be able to now make
Nigerians feel its impact as an interventionist agency. It said the
issue of research and infrastructure must be addressed by the newly
appointed head of the fund.
