The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has kicked against the
appointment of the new PTDF boss. The group in a press statement
signed by its Publicity Secretary Mr. Adams Davidson said the
appointment of Mr. Olufemi Ajayi a former boss of the National Drug
Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA is not in the best interest of the Niger
Delta region.
The group also said it is regrettable that since the creation of the
fund, successive administrations have not deemed it fit to appoint any
Niger Delta son as Executive Secretary of the fund despite the fact
that the region produces the bulk of the oil and gas that is used to
fund the PTDF. The statement also said the group remains very happy
over the sack of the former Executive Secretary of the Fund who showed
clear ineptitude while as head of the Fund.
While pledging to work with the new Chief Executive of the Petroleum
Technology Development Fund, the group advised him not to neglect the
Niger Delta region or its people as previous heads of the Fund had
done. “in as much as we remain very concerned as regards the neglect
of our people by previous Chief Executives of the Fund, we are
constrained to state that we will work with the new Executive
Secretary of the Fund if he is so willing to work for the growth and
development of the human capital in the Niger Delta. He also has to
appreciate the fact that the region produces the bulk of the wealth
that funds the PTDF and the President who appointed him into the
position he occupies today is a Niger Delta son whom he must not let
down as the former Executive Secretary did” the statement added.
It should be noted that the former Executive Secretary of the PTDF
Oluwole Oluyeye was recently sacked after spending less than a year as
Chief Executive of the PTDF despite the fact that the law setting up
the fund stipulates four year tenure. The sack was also followed by
the raiding of the Fund by men of the Directorate of State Security
few days later. Reasons for the removal of the past Executive
Secretary remains sketchy but there are speculations that he was using
his position to work against the PDP led government that appointed him
into office.
Meanwhile, the Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has called on the
members of the House of Representatives to stop the witch hunt of
women appointed into office by President Goodluck Jonathan. The group
said it was wrong for the Parliament to be singling out women who have
worked hard to move the country forward for unnecessary persecution.
The group in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary Adams
Davidson sited instances of the Director General of the Stock Exchange
Commission SEC Ms Arunma Oteh, former Minister of Aviation Mrs. Stella
Oduah as well as the present Ministers of Petroleum and Finance. The
statement said the frequent attack on them despite the successes they
have brought to the Transformation Agenda, clearly shows that they are
against the empowerment of Nigerian women.
