Troops intercept three Boko Haram terrorists at IDPs’ camp in Borno

Troops of 22 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Operation Lafiya Dole said they intercepted three Boko Haram terrorists who were trying to wreak havoc at an Internally-Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Borno State.
A statement signed by Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen Sani Usman, in Abuja yesterday, said if not for the efforts of the vigilant troops who engaged the suicide bombers, it would have been heavy casualties at the camp.
Items recovered from them, according to the statement, include two AK-47 rifles and two magazines with several rounds of ammunition, among others. The statement read: “Crack troops of 22 Brigade of Operation Lafiya Dole displayed gallantry on October 4, 2017 at about 6:05 p.m. by intercepting three Boko Haram terrorists who disguised as Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) and trying to infiltrate a barrier.
“The vigilant troops engaged the suicide bombers forcing them to hastily detonate their suicide vest.“The troops’ action saved what would have been another evil machination of Boko Haram terrorists’ ploy to utilise suicide bombing to inflict heavy casualties on soft targets.”
In a similar vein, troops of 151 and 202 Battalion of 21 Brigade of the Nigerian Army under Operation Lafiya Dole have intercepted unsuspecting Boko Haram terrorists along Firgi-Pulka Road in Bama Local Council of Borno State.
Usman, in a statement, noted that the troops engaged the terrorists with a heavy fire causing the terrorists to abandon their weapons and flee in disarray with gunshot wounds.“In the first instance, upon exploitation, troops recovered from the terrorists one General Multi-Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and one motorcycle.”
“They also successfully discovered and safely detonated an unexploded ordnance. However, the troops followed with a hot pursuit, neutralised one terrorist and recovered six bundles of zinc,” the statement added.
