On Dumo Lulu Briggs PDP Stance

On Esther Sunday Chief Barrister Dumo Lulu Briggs a frontline Peoples Democratic Party PDP stalwart in Rivers state declared that he will not be leaving the Peoples Democratic Party PDP. Chief Dumo contested for the Governorship primaries of the PDP in December 2014 the outcome which drew lots of discontent amongst party faithful as well as from supporters of the Kalabari born Chief.
But his commitment to the party even after it lost the Presidential elections last month as well as the threats by Governor Rotimi Amaechi to unleash brimstone not forgetting the propaganda by the APC that Rivers people should vote the party at the center has not dissuaded people like Dumo Lulu Briggs into making the band wagon jump.
It should be recalled that since the PDP lost the presidential elections and did woefully at the National Assembly elections, many fare weather friends (apologies to Sen. David Mark) have decided to jump ship by decamping to the winning party. This wave of decamps has buttressed what Sen. Chris Ngige said that it is very difficult to play opposition politics in Nigeria.
But it is not in the character of all men to abandon ship when there is a minor storm. This is what the action of Dumo Lulu Briggs epitomizes. Such conduct is courageous and worthy to be commended by those desirous of seeing a better political atmosphere for our country.
I have always detested people who betray their platforms as a result of a storm in the tea cup. Such attitude is cheap and does not tell well about the character of a person who calls himself a political leader.
Yes, DLB as many will be wont to call him; will be justified to leave the PDP considering the injustice that greeted the PDP primaries in the state. As a person, I had expected that he would have jumped ship long ago but he stood his ground and stayed put in the party campaigning vigourously for the reelection of Mr. President. Some aggrieved people left the party and whatever way they look at it, their action had a telling effect on the party.
It is heart warming that despite the loss of the party at the National level, the people of Rivers state showed where they hearts laid by the overwhelming votes they cast for the party at the state.
Rivers people showed their love for the President and his wife when they voted the party at all levels of the elections that took place on the 28th of March 2015 so, the stance of Dumo in remaining at the party is not in any way out of tune with the wishes and aspirations of Rivers people.
Though he may have been hurt by the actions of December 8th 2014, Chief Dumo on the 4th of April in the spirit of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, forgave all those that worked against his emergence as governor by sticking to the party with the hope that all the events that led to the injustice can only best be corrected within the party he helped build and has contributed a lot in nurturing.
Young Nigerians need a leadership with example and the position of Chief Dumo  in the spirit of the Nigerian renaissance, has given hope to Nigerian youths who look up to him as a leader and political mentor.
As somebody who has consistently followed him, I feel touched by his stance and do urge all Nigerian youths to emulate such spirit.
Rivers state is a PDP state and will remain so despite whatever circumstances. It is important we understand this. This is why I will implore Rivers people especially supporters of Chief Barrister Dumo  Lulu Briggs to ensure that they come out en masse on Saturday April 11th to vote for the PDP. We at the Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation will not be lefty out and at the end of the day, we will proud that at the end of the day, we did not let down our brother and President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan a man who forever will be remained in the annals of our political history.

DEFECTIONS: Why Saraki, Dogara Others Must Heed Sen. Ibrahim's Call by Comrade Nwokoma Ndubuisi M.

The gale of defections in the National Assembly last week was followed by an advice from no one else than Sen. Abu Ibrahim that the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and others in the fold of the All Progressives Congress APC that are still masquerading in the party should resign their membership of the party. This call which also implies that they resign their positions as leaders of the various arms of the National Assembly is yet to be complied with by those concerned as at the time of writing this piece Whatever their reasons for still staying put in the party may be, the fact of the matter is that their continued stay in the party has become a sore which must be extricated from the body.  As I watched through the proceedings of the defections on national television, I wept for the country for producing such leaders that lack morality despite all the party has given them politically which they ordin...

Rivers Governmnet, PDP Disagree Over $280 million Looan

The Rivers State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state are currently at loggerheads over the request by the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, for a $280m loan for water and sanitation projects. While the state PDP said that the latest request for loan by the state government was unnecessary due to the resources accruing to the state through the federal allocation and internally generated revenue, the government said it was not true that the funds were to be used for 2015 elections. The state House of Assembly had on Monday endorsed Amaechi’s request for loan for water supply and sanitation projects. But the state PDP, in a statement, signed by the Special Adviser to its Chairman, Mr. Jerry Needam, said the request for loan was aimed at punishing the governor’s successor in 2015. The party called on members of the House of Assembly, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the African Development Bank and the World Bank not to honour the loan re...

2019: Northern youths kick as Northwest APC lawmakers endorse Buhari

The leadership of the Arewa Youth Forum on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari does not deserve any endorsement for the 2019 presidency. Reacting to a purported endorsement by some serving All Progressives Congress’s lawmakers from the Northwest in Kaduna, the AYF’s National President, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, said Buhari was not fit to return as president in 2019. The AYF argued that with the killing spree all over the country, especially in the North, Buhari should serve his mandatory four years term and quit the stage for another Northerner. Gujungu noted that one sour point about President Buhari’s 2019 ambition was his claim that the killings across the country were being carried out by “desperate politicians”, yet he had not arrested even a single suspect. The AYF president, therefore, said Nigerians should blame the president for the attacks on innocent citizens. The AYF boss who spoke to our correspondent on phone on Monday, said the President’s cl...
