Ogbia House Of Assembly: Why We Must Do The Needful by Jonathan Pasedin

The race for various political positions in the state is gradually reaching its crescendo not with the fast approaching kick-start coming with the Presidential elections fixed for the 28th day of  March 2015 an election which many political pundits believe our beloved President and brother is destined to win.
Considering the way things are going, one cannot help agreeing with the general tide in the state that the Peoples Democratic Party PDP will definitely retain its penchant to be victorious in the coming elections.
As an Oloibiri man from Ogbia Local Government of the state, one area that interests me most in the election and I believe many from my LGA will agree with me also, is the quest  for the Ogbia State House of Assembly seat.
Candidates have been selected by the various political parties to jostle for the seat both serious contestants and pretenders alike. But one candidate whom many will NEVER doubt as to being structurally placed to coast home with the seat in his kitty is Chief Mitema Obodor a politician of understanding and acceptability.
This Ogbia born politician and immediate past Commissioner of sports in the state has shown that politics can be played by honest, descent and caring individuals. Since his decision to vie for the State House of Assembly seat, I as an eligible voter in the constituency have mobilized other eligible voters to ensure that his victory is certain. The ripple effect of the endorsement of Chief Obodor has continued to rise not because of any other factor than that of his character as a person. Which many will attest is at the positive side.
Many will agree with me that Chief Obodor has reached out to a lot of people in his constituency and outside empowering as much people as his resources can carry and what else, this man during his period as Commissioner of sports in Bayelsa did a lot in improving sports and sporting infrastructure in the state which was made manifest in the rise of Bayelsa state in the nation’s sporting firmament.
If achievement and attitude are criteria for ensuring the success of a politician aspiring for political position, Chief Mitema Obodor is surely cruising to victory.
Be that as it may, I wish to urge this my very good brother to ensure that he brings in a transformational legislative agenda in the House when he is inaugurated. The other persons that have occupied the seat have all come and go but I believe that with the pedigree of Chief Obodor, he will do better and our dear Ogbia and Bayelsa state will become better off.
Governor Seriake Dickson the executive Governor of the state needs people who will support his developmental agenda for the state and placing good hands who will work with him in moving the state forward is very imperative and I see in Chief Obodor an embodiment of a person with the character to stand by the Governor and provide him with the support he needs in taking our state to the zenith.
As I drop my pen, I wish to thank the people of my village, town local government and state for giving the Peoples Democratic Party the support it has received so far. I have the unshakable conviction that this support will be replicated in all phases of the general elections when we won’t fail to do the needful.

DEFECTIONS: Why Saraki, Dogara Others Must Heed Sen. Ibrahim's Call by Comrade Nwokoma Ndubuisi M.

The gale of defections in the National Assembly last week was followed by an advice from no one else than Sen. Abu Ibrahim that the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and others in the fold of the All Progressives Congress APC that are still masquerading in the party should resign their membership of the party. This call which also implies that they resign their positions as leaders of the various arms of the National Assembly is yet to be complied with by those concerned as at the time of writing this piece Whatever their reasons for still staying put in the party may be, the fact of the matter is that their continued stay in the party has become a sore which must be extricated from the body.  As I watched through the proceedings of the defections on national television, I wept for the country for producing such leaders that lack morality despite all the party has given them politically which they ordin...

Rivers Governmnet, PDP Disagree Over $280 million Looan

The Rivers State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state are currently at loggerheads over the request by the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, for a $280m loan for water and sanitation projects. While the state PDP said that the latest request for loan by the state government was unnecessary due to the resources accruing to the state through the federal allocation and internally generated revenue, the government said it was not true that the funds were to be used for 2015 elections. The state House of Assembly had on Monday endorsed Amaechi’s request for loan for water supply and sanitation projects. But the state PDP, in a statement, signed by the Special Adviser to its Chairman, Mr. Jerry Needam, said the request for loan was aimed at punishing the governor’s successor in 2015. The party called on members of the House of Assembly, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the African Development Bank and the World Bank not to honour the loan re...

2019: Northern youths kick as Northwest APC lawmakers endorse Buhari

The leadership of the Arewa Youth Forum on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari does not deserve any endorsement for the 2019 presidency. Reacting to a purported endorsement by some serving All Progressives Congress’s lawmakers from the Northwest in Kaduna, the AYF’s National President, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, said Buhari was not fit to return as president in 2019. The AYF argued that with the killing spree all over the country, especially in the North, Buhari should serve his mandatory four years term and quit the stage for another Northerner. Gujungu noted that one sour point about President Buhari’s 2019 ambition was his claim that the killings across the country were being carried out by “desperate politicians”, yet he had not arrested even a single suspect. The AYF president, therefore, said Nigerians should blame the president for the attacks on innocent citizens. The AYF boss who spoke to our correspondent on phone on Monday, said the President’s cl...
