RIWAMA Sole
Administrator, Bro. Felix Obuah Impressed With Compliance Despite Downpour
The Sole Administrator
of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah has
applauded residents and those doing business in the State for actively
participating in the sanitation exercise held across the State on Saturday,
July 28, 2018.
Bro. Obuah, shortly
after the monitoring exercise in some sections of Port Harcourt, the State
capital, applauded the people for defying the heavy downpour which lasted over
two hours, to clean their surroundings.
The Sole Administrator
said the fact that people participated actively in the exercise despite the
downpour, showed that Rivers people appreciate healthy environment and urged
them to sustain the tempo in future sanitation exercises.
“The early comers also
did a great job in that we saw a lot of cans and plastic bottles floating from
the drains and this is a good time to do this cleaning so that our drains would
be free of blockages”, he said.
The Sole Administrator
who also commended residents of Rumuokoro in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area
for defying the rain to turn out in their numbers for the exercise, however
condemned the attitude of traders who disobeyed the restriction of human and
vehicular movements order and were seen trading along the major road and the
Rumuokoro Roundabout.
The RIWAMA boss
similarly appealed to residents of Orazi Community in Obio/Akpor Local
Government Area to desist from the habit of dumping plastics and other waste
materials into the drains whenever it rains.
Bro. Obuah also lauded
the efforts of the 23 local government chairmen and the councilors in
mobilizing their people to participate in the exercise, noting that the local
government administrators have proven their worth as true leaders.
The RIWAMA boss added
that the Agency would, with effect from next sanitation exercise, send a team
to each LGA as a way of complementing their efforts in cleaning their areas.
He revealed that the
Agency has also concluded plans to visit each LGA to ascertain the level of
environmental cleanliness of their areas, adding that the visit would begin
next week with Obio/Akpor and Eleme Local Government Areas.
Bro. Obuah also commended
security agents for ensuring the enforcement of the ‘no human and vehicular
movements’ order between the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., even as he extolled
the roles played by traditional rulers, chiefs, youths, women and opinion
leaders in ensuring that the exercise was successful at the rural areas.
The Sole Administrator
advised Rivers people to join hands with Governor Nyesom Wike to ensure that
all the nooks and crannies of the State are kept clean and healthy at all
times.
