A former Executive Secretary
of the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC Prof. Ahmed Modibbo is set to
be honoured for the positive impact he has played in the development of
qualitative education in the country.
Save De Globe
International a group registered with
the United Nations and official promoters of the Sustainable Development Goals SDG
in Nigeria said in a press statement made available to newsmen and signed by
its National Coordinator Barr. Ogbu Francisca that its decision to honour Prof.
Modibbo was based on the kind of policies he put in place in the various
educational positions he has held over the years.
The statement described
the former boss of the National Teachers Institute and one time lecturer at the
Ahmadu Bello University as someone who is committed to the development of
qualitative education and who has shown himself to be in tune with goal four of
the Sustainable Development Goals initiative. ''as a major promoter of the
Sustainable Development Goals initiative, we make bold to state that Prof.
Modibbo needs to be celebrated for his positive role in education in the
country. The fact that he is no longer in public office makes it all the more
expedient for us to honour him for his good works while in public office. We
believe in encouraging and celebrating people out of office so as to motivate those
in office today to perform well so as to be celebrated when they leave office
tomorrow. Ahmed Modibbo is an epitome of hard work and commitment to
educational development in the country and has to be honoured'' the statement
added.
Meanwhile the Save De
Globe International has also stated that it will begin its school to school
awareness programme in Nasarawa state. It said the awareness programme is aimed
at educating students in the state on what the SDG is all about so as to keep
them abreast with the programme. The group decried a situation whereby
Nigerians remain out of touch with the programmes of the United Nations
Organisation. It also decried the situation whereby Nigeria youths have failed
to develop a career within the global body. ''It is disheartening that our
youths have failed to build a career within the United Nations Organisation as
well as other global bodies. we wish to address this issue as we embark on our
school to school awareness programme''. The statement concluded.
