The Niger Delta Renaissance Organization
NDRO has condemned the purported
suspension of a front line governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party
PDP in Cross River state Prince Godwin Jedi Agba as well as other party
faithful in the state by the Chairman of the stat chapter of the party Mr. John
Okon. The group after an emergency National Executive Council NEC meeting in
Calabar the Cross River state chapter, said the suspension was a tactical but
mischievous way of disenfranchising the governorship aspirant who has sacrificed
so much for the party in the state in particular and the country in general.
The communiqué which was signed by
the National Coordinator of the organisation Comrade Nwokoma Messiah as well as
other executive members of the organization including the National Secretary,
Comrade Barr. Kingsley Frank, National Director of Moblisation Benjamin Etuk as
well as the Cross River state Coordinator Ndifon Emmanuel, said the purported
suspension is unacceptable to the generality of people of Cross River state who
are desirous of seeing Godwin Jedi Agba as its next governor come 2015.
The NDRO advised the Cross River
state chapter of the party to rescind its stance describing it as “gross
violation of human rights and a calculated attempt by people who are afraid of
his profile as a front line aspirant of the party in the coming primaries. The
group described the reason for his suspension by the state party chairman as
baseless and of no significance as far as the party guidelines for the coming
primaries is concerned. The group described the state Executive Councils’
decision to carry out the suspension of party faithful in the state who have
put in so much resource in repositioning the party for greatness in the state
as anti party in its entirety.
The group said the suspension is highly
condemnable and runs contrary to justice, and good conscience especially coming
on the heels of the upcoming party primaries. The statement went further to
state that “how can the state chapter of the party make a unilateral suspension
order on people who are assets to the party without adhering to due process and
fair hearing” the group said the suspension remains questionable especially now
that he has submitted his expression of interest form and is prepared to face
his opponents in the primaries.
While expressing their loyalty to the
Party and Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the group said it will do all it can to
ensure that the opposition does not make any in road in the Niger Delta region.
It however, advised the National leadership of the party to do the needful by
reversing the purported unconstitutional suspension.
