The Niger Delta Renaissance
Organisation has commended the President of the Nigerian Senate and Leader of
the National Assembly Senator David Mark and members of the Nigerian Police Force
over their handling of the crisis in the House of Representatives on Thursday
20th November 2014. The group in a press statement signed by its
National Coordinator Comrade Nwokoma Messiah said the Senate President showed
strong maturity in handling the issue which would have led to bloodbath at the
National Assembly due to the violence displayed by members of the House from
the minority All Progressive Congress APC.
The group accused Hon. Aminu Tambuwal of trying to cause
crisis in the country by interpreting the constitution and House rules to suit
his whims and caprices. It accused Tambuwal of impunity stressing that there is
nowhere in the world where minority in a chamber of the legislature can produce
the Speaker. It described such act as the height of political rascality which
has become the hall mark of the APC. The group lampooned the Minority Leader
Hon. Ismaila Kawu and other members for scaling the fence of the National
Assembly “how will they explain such a shameful display to their children and
followers. It was really shameful” the group said. The group said it is
imperative that Hon.Abdul Malik Cheche as well as other members that attempted to assault the Senate President tender apology to him and the nation.
The group commended members of the Nigerian Police for a job
well done. “If not for the timely intervention of the Police, The Speaker in
company of his entourage of thugs had attempted to wreck violence on members
who they think will attempt to impeach him” the group posited. It said the
accusation of high handedness against the Police by the opposition APC is
mischievous as it is misleading.
The NDRO warned Nigerians against the APC which they accused
of exposing the country to grave security risk which they cannot solve even if
they win power. The statement called on the members of the National Assembly to
objectively look into the request of President Jonathan to extend the state of
emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states stressing that at the end of the
day, it is the people that will suffer if all hands are not on deck to
checkmate the insurgency. “The opposition should learn from Iran where despite
its differences with the west is joining hands to combat the ISIS insurgency in
the region”
