The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation NDRO has commended
the Peoples Democratic Party PDP Screening Appeal Committee for clearing
frontline governorship candidate of the party Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs after the
infamous action of the South South screening committee which refused to clear him
and others known to be against the governorship aspiration of Barr. Nyesom Wike
former minister of state for education.
The group in a press statement signed by its National
Coordinator Comrade Nwokoma Messiah said it would have been a big disaster for
the party if the plan had sailed through. The NDRO said the Peoples Democratic
Party PDP would have been setting a wrong precedent by disqualifying prominent
members of the party who have contributed to its development in many ways.
The group described Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs as a candidate
that is in touch with the people and said it has the belief that he will emerge
victorious during the governorship primaries. It said the Wike group is aware
of his profile hence its desperation to see that Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs is
screened out using a most flimsy and unacceptable reason.
While calling on the Party hierarchy to beware of the
desperate politics of politicians within its fold, the group said they must be called
to order in order not to bring acrimony and shame to the party in the long run.
“It would have been most embarrassing to the Presidency and the party to have
allowed the decision of the screening committee which sat in Port Harcourt to
stay considering the fact that Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs has served as Chairman of
two Federal Boards under the tenure of this administration from where he
recently resigned as Chairman of the Board of Federal Medical Center, Owerri.
Are they saying they know more than the President who appointed him as Board
Chairman?” the group queried The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation NDRO said
it was wrong to say that those against Wike are in the opposition. It described
the Grassroots Democratic Initiative GDI as a threat to the PDP. “The GDI
rather than becoming an asset to the party has become a threat and an
instrument of division in the party. This must not be allowed” the group
stated.
It called on all Rivers people especially the delegates to
the governorship primaries to eschew all forms of myopic politics by nominating
the best candidate that can deliver the party in the next general elections and
not somebody that will be rejected by the generality of Rivers people due to
his glaring desperation for power.
