The Niger Delta Renaissance
Organisation has told the National Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party
PDP that the desperation for power by the Hon. Minister of State Barr. Nyesom
Wike will destroy the Party in Rivers state if not checked. The group said the
party must act fast to checkmate the violence which the camp of the minister is
unleashing on party faithful in the state.
The statement signed by the
Director of mobilization NDRO Rivers Chapter, Com. Israel Obodo said Rivers
State has overgrown the politics of violence which the camp of the minister is
plunging the party into as evident in the show of shame at Legacy House, Abuja.
The group said Rivers people are highly respected in the country as gentlemen
and wondered why the quest for power by an individual should hold the state to ransom.
The group said “it is regrettable that other states came and concluded their reconciliation
exercise peacefully while Rivers State which should have been in the forefront
of setting a good example as a leading South South state ended up embarrassing
the state and giving room for the All Progressive Congress APC in the state to
make mockery of our great party”
The group said the coming
primaries of the PDP should not be seen as a do or die affair. It said Wike’s
camp must come off the assumption that anybody against his ambition is
automatically an opposition member or traitor. The organization said Wike
should be grateful because as the highest beneficiary of the party in the state
he holds it as a duty to see that the party does not disintegrate due to his
overbearing hunger for power.
The group commended the National
Leadership of the PDP over its directive to state party chairmen warning
against undue favouritism to a particular candidate. The group describes the
statement as a welcome development considering the way and manner the PDP
Executives in the state have glaringly shown their prejudice towards Wike. “It
is unfortunate that the party leadership in Rivers State has shown glaring
favouritism to Barr Nyesom Wike in an
election where all aspirants should be given a level playing ground as directed
by the National leadership of the party. This is why the directive is welcome
and commendable” the group said.
The NDRO also expressed its
confidence in President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Transformation agenda as a
road map to sustainable development in the country. It also pledged its loyalty
to the PDP while stressing that it will never
go back on its stance for a riverine governor in Rivers state come 2015.
