“Opt For Consensus” Group to Rivers PDP Guber Aspirants

The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has urged Rivers governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party to opt for a consensus candidate ahead of the party primaries which comes up on November 29th 2014.
The group during a press interaction with journalists at the Party National office Wadata House Abuja, noted that the guber aspirants in the state cannot afford to be divided. The National Secretary of the group and spokesman Comrade Barr. Kingsley Frank who addressed the news men said the party in the state must fight against any attempt to foist a candidate that will not be acceptable by the generality of the masses in the state at the general elections. “It is imperative that the aspirant understand the need to unite and bring out an acceptable candidate that can defeat the ruling party in the state which is not also resting in its oars for the battle ahead”
He said the riverine people of the state must be given the chance to produce the next governor based on equity, fairness and the principle of rotation which is enshrined in the preamble to the party’s constitution and provided for in section 7 (3)(c).
The group condemned the position in some quarters that there is no zoning in the constitution of the party. It said those taking such positions are probably ill informed or short sighted stressing that if they had taken  time to study the constitution of the party, they would have understood that the party’s foundation is anchored on the philosophy of carrying all interests along. “The fore fathers of the party being averse to domination of one ethnic nationality against others inserted it in the constitution to avoid the alienation of other ethnic nationalities” Barr. Frank posited
The group which came in solidarity with Chief Barr. Dumo Lulu Briggs who was at the party’s National Secretariat to pick his nomination and expression of interest form, said they will support his candidacy because he has the clout and qualities to govern the state.
The group which stormed the Wadata House with fanfare said it will mobilize massive support amongst delegates which they believe will see reason to tow the path of the collective interests of Rivers people by nominating Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs as the party flag bearer.
