Botched NNPC Dinner: ''We Informed NASS Members Through Committee Chairmen'' - NNPC

The management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC has explained that its decision to postpone the Dinner between the Group Managing Director of the Corporation and members of the National Assembly was communicated to the members through the committee Chairmen. The NNPC made its position known through its twitter handle and in a personal chat with Naijanewsmaker blog.

The Group General Manager Corporate Affairs of the NNPC Ndu Ughamadu told our correspondent that members were invited through 8th various committees. He said the postponement was as a result of the Dinner which Principal members of the National Assembly had with Mr. President at the Presidential Villa. He stressed that with the National Executive Council meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Dinner at the Villa, it would have been difficult to go ahead with the Dinner at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.  While regretting the postponement, he  said Staff of the Corporation were sent to the hotel to inform members who did not get the message from the Committee leadership.

Meanwhile the Transcorp Hilton Hotel was thrown into confusion following the last minute cancellation of the Dinner with the NNPC GMD.

Members who spoke to Naijanewsmaker said they were embarrassed that a corporation like the NNPC could behave in such a way that clearly humiliated members of the National Assembly. As at the time our reporters left the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, over fifty members of the National Assembly from both the red and green chambers had come and gone only to be informed by Staff of the hotel that there was no event registered for that day from the NNPC.

Among those who thronged the supposed venue of the hotel were the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream Sen. Barau Jubril. They all expressed surprise at the last minute cancellation but stated that if the dinner was postponed due to the dinner at the Presidential villa then it was not a bad excuse. ''our concern is the way and manner the information concerning the postponement was managed and not the fact that it was postponed ' one of the lawmakers said.
