The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, said on Monday that
he would not be distracted by criticisms from the opposition, saying he would
remain focused on the greater good of the state.
The governor stated this during a media tour of projects he
organised for journalists in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The projects visited include Creek-Churchill-Borokiri road,
Industry road, Nkpogu road, Peter Odili road -Woji road, East-West-Eleme-Onne
Expressway and Eliopranwo road. Others are Wimpey-Rumuolumeni road, Evo road
GRA II, Law Faculty Complex of the Rivers State University of Science and
Technology, -Iloabuchi-Eagle Island and Silverbird Cinema -Abali Park.
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress
earlier accused Mr. Wike of squandering N120 billion during his first 100 days
in office.
The party, in a statement, accused the governor of presenting
roads constructed by his predecessor, Chibuike Amaechi, as his part of his
achievements.
Mr. Wike said though he expected the opposition to always
find fault with the actions of his government, his development blueprint would
be focused on the greater good of the state and its overall revival following
the decay he inherited.
He said that his administration would continue to deliver on
all fronts, stating that the era of abandoned projects were over.
The governor explained that he kick-started the revival of
the state with key roads in Port Harcourt and Obio /Akpor Local Government
Areas because they positively affect the lives of the people.
Mr. Wike said his administration was working to improve the
lives of the people and that he derived his inspiration from the joy of the
ordinary man on the street.
He said the completed roads had improved small, medium and
large scale businesses across the state as clients could now access business
centres.
“My inspiration flows from what makes people happy. That is
why we are working hard to execute several projects in line with the promises I
made to the people,” he said.
“We decided to complete ongoing projects because they are
important to the wellbeing of the people. The immediate past administration
could not complete these projects in eight years, but we have been able to
complete them through dedicated funding and strict supervision.
“You can see the spontaneous joy and celebration everywhere
we went on this media tour of projects. The people are happy with what we are
doing to improve their lives and that is what drives this administration “.
The governor noted that his administration was hinged on
transparency and accountability, pointing out that journalists will be briefed
on regular basis on the programmes and projects of government.
