There are indications that the Bayelsa state governor Seriake
Dickson is sending emissaries to reach out to politicians who decamped to the
All Progressives Congress in order to ensure that they drop their ambition and
support his second term bid.
This latest move by the camp of the governor was made known
to us through sources that preferred anonymity.
The sources said the governor is jittery over the emergence of Timi Alaibe in
the Bayelsa governorship race and is afraid of his profile which they agree is bringing political gains to the All
Progressives Congress APC in Bayelsa state.
Timi Alaibe while returning his nomination form had sited the
insensitivity of the governor to the plight of the people and his mediocre
style of governance as reasons why he and his supporters left the Peoples
Democratic Party PDP. He had also said governors that have ruled the state have
made the state suffer due to the fact that they were never prepared for
governance.
The former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development
Commission NDDC according to the source, however was said to have declined the
request by the governor and his emissaries describing it as the wish of a
drowning man. The source said the APC governorship aspirant is ready for the
primaries and has the belief that he will win the primaries and kick out the
underperforming governor from the Creek Haven. “I thought they said he was not
on ground? Why is he going about sending people to ask our Principal and his
supporters to remember that we are all Ijaws? Is it now that he smells defeat
that he will remember we are Ijaws? Our Principal and next governor of Bayelsa
state is a disciplined party man as exemplified by his previous records and there
is just no way he will disappoint his teeming supporters and party by acceding
to the request of the governor that he stands down his governorship ambition in
order to save the face of the Ijaw nation” The source stressed.
He advised the people of Bayelsa state and its residents to
remain faithful to the change promised by the APC which he said is getting
better by the day while assuring that by the grace of God the governor will be
rooted out of office along with his mediocre team.
