The victory of Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike at the
Supreme Court after a hard fought legal battle has brought so much smile to the
face of true Rivers people. I am not talking about the politicians who are wont
to change white to black in order to satisfy their whims and caprices but the very commoners who understand the security
implication of having another round of elections in a state that has been traumatized
by the judicial pronouncements that preceded the judgment of the apex court of
the land.
As a Rivers and Niger Delta son I must confess that the
political events of the last two months in the two states of Bayelsa and Rivers
has given us so much joy to majority of our people and will bring political,
social and economic stability to the region despite the attempts by a noisy few
to send wrong impression that they are on ground.
It is the expectations of a lot of us that the same scenario
will repeat itself in Akwa Ibom and Abia
states where the same elements are bent
on foisting their fiendish agenda on the people.
I wish to call on our President to see this as a true
reflection of the aspirations of the people and call his boys to order so as to
let peace reign. His true friends are we the 5 percenters who have remained
resolute in our quest for a better Nigeria. Those prodding him to take anti
democratic stance so as to appease their inordinate quest for power are his
enemies and if he allows them succeed it will only be bad news for him and just
like the former President is beginning to learn of the betrayals of some
trusted persons in his administration, he may not be as lucky when the chips
are down.
To Nyesom Wike the enigmatic governor and true lion of the
people I say congratulobia. He has shown that he is a man of steel. He ensured
that the former governor who is now fighting him dirty win the celebrated
Supreme Court judgment of October 2007 and he has shown that he still holds the
ace as far as seeking redress against injustice is concerned.
Congratulations from some quarters or not, the congratulations
of Rivers people and true democrats all over the world are ten thousand times
more soothing.
I urge him to be magnanimous in victory and accord our
President the respect he deserves after all, his silence in the face of the
whole oppressive scheming of his supporters has in the long run decimated their
resources which lawyers and corrupt judges have feasted on.
I cannot end without giving big thumbs up to our revered Supreme
Court judges. They are the real hope of the common men and not the Ghana Must
Go loving judges who do not care about posterity or the integrity of their
judgments. Like the late Bassey Ikpeme their credibility has vanished like the
ladder of a soap.
God bless us all.
