The capital city of Port Harcourt Rivers State is in wild
jubilation over the Supreme Court victory of the Governor Nyesom Wike.
The Supreme Court had in its judgment this evening declared
the governor as duly elected. The apex court which has reserved February 12 as
the date to give its reason for the judgment has by today’s ruling put paid to
the legal tussle that greeted the election of the Rivers state governor.
Both the Tribunal and Appeal court had ruled against the
election of Nyesom Wike citing the non use of card readers among other issues
as reasons for the nullification.
Nyesom Wike had appealed both judgments leading to the latest
ruling of the Supreme Court which has authenticated his claim to the Rivers
Brick House.
Residents of the city of Port Harcourt were seen in large numbers
celebrating the victory of the state governor. Some were seen on top of car
roofs while others were congratulating themselves.
A resident who spoke to our reporters said the judgment will
bring about peace and stability in the state. “You can see how happy the people
are with the judgment unlike the previous kangaroo judgments that was
delivered. We give Almighty God the glory for saving our state from blood bath”.
He added.
Another resident in the city Joseph Nwokoma said the Supreme Court has by the judgment saved the judiciary from ridicule. "What the Supreme Court did today has saved the Judiciary from ridicule. I hope that peace will return to the state and expect the President to congratulate the governor"
