Senator representing Borno Central, Ahmed Zannah
The senator representing Borno Central, Ahmed Zannah, has passed on at the age of 60.
He died in Abuja on Saturday after years of battle with a terminal disease.
Zannah was elected into the Senate in 2011 on the platform of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after surprisingly defeating the outgoing
governor then, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff who was planning a return to
the Senate after eight years in the saddle as governor.
He won a re-election during the last election without much struggle on
the the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and could have
been in the Senate till 2019.
The senator came into national prominence with his criticisms of
President Goodluck Jonathan’s handling of the Boko Haram issue, which
left over half of his constituency captured by the insurgents.
These criticisms came as a surprise to many bearing in mind that they were in the same party.
Zannah recently came back from London where he had gone for medical treatment immediately after he won his re-election.
He was said to have passed on Saturday morning in Abuja from stroke. Preparation for his burial was on as at press time.
He will be buried according to Muslim rite.
It was also gathered that the third day prayer for the departed
lawmaker would come up at his Maiduguri residence on Damboa Road.
