The Plateau State
Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has zoned the party’s
governorship position to the Southern Senatorial District of the State.
These was part of the
party’s resolutions at the end of its State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting
held in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
Addressing journalists,
the Party’s Publicity Secretary in the State, John Akans, said, “After an
exhaustive deliberation of issues on the agenda, SEC resolved that the party
will organise a retreat for its executive committee, and members the national and
state assemblies. State Working Committee was mandated to organize and
communicate date for same.
“Pursuant to the
provision of the new Party Constitution, which gives each State Chapter the
opportunity of producing one additional member of the Board of Trustees member,
SEC zoned same to the Southern Senatorial District considering the fact that
both the Central and Northern Districts are represented, ” he said.
Akans added that, “SEC
also approved the appointment of two physically challenged persons into the
CAUCUS of the party in line with the Party’s constitution.
According to him, “The
Meeting also approved the zoning of the party’s governorship position to the
Southern zone for the purposes of the 2019 general elections.
He said the party’s
Chairman, Hon. Damishi Sango, appreciated all members of the party for their
support and sacrifices towards the success of the party.
Those present at the
meeting were Senators Jeremiah Useini, Jonah Jang, other national and state
assembly members, among others.
It would be recalled
that the party’s failure to file a candidate from the Southern Zone led to its
defeat in the 2015 gubernatorial polls.
