With the expected kick
start of campaigns for the Rivers State Local Government elections billed to
take place on Saturday the 16th of June 2018, one candidate for the elections
whom eyes will be looking up to is none other than the indefatigable
personality whom many also refer to as ‘Ishi’
a true son of the soil who in the very few period he has been in the state’s
political firmament has become a politician who has continuously sent shivers
down the spine of the opposition in the state particularly the All progressives
Congress APC which incidentally has vowed never to partake in the Local
Government elections.
The fact that Mr. Samuel
Nwanosike who at a particular time fell victim of the APC’s fiendish
politicking machinery using state sponsored intimidation against him, is vying
for the Chairmanship of the local government of the acclaimed leader of the APC
in Rivers state makes his quest even more interesting. Mr. Nwanosike a quintessential
grassroots politician, remains a threat to the party not only in his LGA but in
the state not with his unalloyed support for the state’s governor Chief Barr.
Nyesom Wike who has performed very well to the admiration of the people of the
state.
The people of Rivers
State who have indicated strong desire to see the governor who they also refer
to as Mr. Project back to the state’s Government House come next year, see Mr.
Nwanosike as part of the success story of the PDP administration and also wish
to do whatever they can within their power to ensure that he becomes the
Chairman of the local government which he patriotically aspires to lead thereby
replicating the PDP success story at the grassroots.
I may not be from
Ikwerre local government but being a free born Rivers person with friends cut
across the length and breadth of the state Ikwerre LGA inclusive, I believe
sincerely that the people of Ikwerre LGA are lucky to have someone like Mr.
Nwanoske Samuel aspiring to lead them. This is because he is one of the success
stories of what a young politician should be -frank, altruistic, humble, purposeful
and filled with zeal to make positive impact on the people he leads, Mr.
Nwanosike to say the least will make the people of the LGA get the deserved
respect they have lost as a result of the negative politicking which their son
in Abuja has given the LGA and the state in general.
Coming with the
experience of having being a care taker local government Chairman of the LGA,
Mr. Nwanosike has the requisite experience and outreach within the ruling
Peoples Democratic Party PDP to make a difference that will be craved for by
even those outside the local government.
As a media practitioner, we miss
him after having resigned as the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state so
as to contest the LGA elections. But the fact that he is going to make greater
impact and contributions at the local government level which requires his likes
is enough consolation for us at the media. I also know that he will not be too
out of the picture being a rabid personality that he is.
One problem of local
government administrations across the country is that they have always had politicians that
lack the zeal and wherewithal to lead the people rightly so as to ensure that
they revolutionalise the grassroots for better performance. Will Mr. Nwanosike
disappoint the people? This is most unlikely.
As I write this piece, I urge the people of the local government just as
I have urged the people of the entire state to show appreciation for the way
the governor has carried the people of the state along through qualitative
governance by coming out en mass to vote the PDP and its candidates across the
LGAs. I understand also that the primaries of the ruling party in the state is
yet to take place but considering the political clout of Mr. Samuel Nwanosike
and his contributions to the success story of the party in the state as well as
his endorsement by the political leader of the party in the local government
Sir Celestine Omehia as the sole candidate of the party in the LGA, I believe
strongly that it will not be a herculean task to achieve and at the end of the
day, the good people of Ikwerre LGA will be the ultimate winners.
