The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has replied Barr.
Ezenwo Ezekiel Amadi over his call for the probing of the Rivers State waste
Management Agency describing his call as the height of irresponsible criticism.
The group also told the former Commissioner for lands that the issue of sanitation
is a collective responsibility and not that of RIWAMA alone.
The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation NDRO made this known
in a statement signed by its National Coordinator Comrade Nwokoma Messiah while
reacting to the statement credited to the former lands Commissioner who
described the waste management agency as a conduit pipe. ‘’the NDRO wouldn’t have
necessarily wanted to reply the former lands commissioner because everybody is
entitled to free speech but describing an agency as important to the wellbeing
of the state as RIWAMA is, as a conduit pipe is to say the least, exceeding the
limits of responsible criticism. If the government he served under was using
the agency as a conduit pip, Rivers people do not see such scenario under the
present leadership of the state’’ the group said.
The group told Barr. Ezekiel Amadi that the issue of sanitation
should not be seen as the responsibility of the government alone but the responsibility
of all responsible residents in the state. It decried a situation whereby after
the contractors have concluded their duty, residents will knowingly or
unknowingly make the place dirty by littering the streets almost immediately
after. It said Rivers people should make it a duty to call to order anybody
that is seen to be littering the streets of the state.
The group commended the state governor for raising the alarm
that the people of the state have failed in the area of sanitation describing
the statement as a statement from a responsible leader. ‘’what Governor Wike
said is the reality on ground. The generality of the people have failed in the
area of sanitation and this attitude must be corrected.
The governor while
making the statement was not intending to indict anybody as insinuated in some
quarters but to call on all Rivers people to action as regards ensuring that
the entire state is clean. For a former official of government to come and
twist the statement of the governor to imply that he is indicting a single
individual is regrettable and he must be cautioned by patriotic citizens of the
state who appreciate the good efforts of the waste management agency under Bro.
Felix Obuah as well as the challenges the state is facing to keep the state
clean. Rivers state is neater than ever and this fact was buttressed by a visiting
world leader the people are disappointed that politics can blind certain people
who are desperate to politicise every issue for their political gains’’.
The group advised the waste management agency to ensure that
it sensitises the people of the state on the need to watch out for filthy
elements who will always show their filthiness by littering the streets of the
state. It also urged the agency to ensure that there is proper monitoring and
enforcing of sanitation laws in the state.
