The Niger Delta Renaissance
Organisation NDRO says the expected visit of President Muhammadu Buhari will
heighten tension in the state. The group said the visit is apolitical and will
not be to the overall interest of Rivers state. The group advised the president
to rather ask Governor Nyesom Wike to invite him to come and commission his
numerous projects in the state.
The NDRO stated this in a press
statement signed by its National Coordinator Comrade Nwokoma Messiah and Director of Publicity Edward Tekenah. ‘’In view of the
information making the rounds concerning
the planned visit of Mr President
to Rivers State as part of his tour to states that have been engulfed in
violence and security related issues recently. We see such visit as untimely
and only aimed at playing politics which will not be good for the stability of
the state.’’
The NDRO stated that Rivers state
is peaceful and also commended the state governor Barr. Nyesom Wike for proving
critics wrong with the way and manner he has brought about relative peace in
the state. The group while wondering why it took the APC led federal government
so long to intervene in the state when it mattered most especially considering
the fact that they have all the security apparatus at their beck and call,
warned the All Progressives Congress APC to avoid playing the politics of
promoting insecurity in the state which the visit of Mr President is aimed at
achieving. ‘’when we needed the President to show his concern after the numerous
killings in the state he showed high insensitivity to the plight of the people
then .The people of the state have taken
their destiny to God who is using Governor Nyesom Wike to overcome the security
challenges in the state and the people do not want the APC to come and disturb
the peace of the state’’. ‘’the achievements of the state governor as eveident
in the various projects he has undertaken has helped bring stability to the
state. The people of the state are happy with him and are desirous of seeing
that he is not distracted’’.
The group urged the president and
the APC led federal government to show they love Rivers state and the Niger
Delta through actions and not rhetoric it criticised the APC for not showing
commitment to the development of the state. ‘’it is unfortunate that the APC
has decided to punish the people of Rivers state for voting in favour of the
PDP in the 2015 elections. This is not surprising considering the infamous quid
pro quo ‘97% and 5%’ statement of President Muhammadu Buhari but what is surprising
is the kind of posture they have been painting about themselves as lovers of
Rivers state. These are people who clearly do not love Rivers State. They are
showing their resentment to the state by refusing to embark on any Federal
Government project into the state despite continues overtures by the state
executive on the need for the federal government to do the needful by giving
the state its fair share in projects’’.
