“Stop Playing Politics With Orashi People” OPCA advises Amaechi

The Orashi Peoples Consultative Assembly OPCA has advised the minister of Transport and former governor of Rivers state Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi to stop playing politics with the people of Orashi region. The group made this statement in reaction to the statement credited to Rotimi Amaechi when he visited Omoku Town promising that the issue of insecurity in Omoku Town and other parts of the region will be addressed if they vote the All Progressives Congress into the Government House Port Harcourt.

The assembly in a statement signed by its Director of mobilisation Comrade Ndu Davidson and made available to newsmen said the former governor who failed to do anything for the people of Omoku Town and other parts of Orashi region does not need to wait till 2019 to better the lots of the people of the region or show his love for the people of the region. The group which berated him for using the insecurity situation to foster his political interests in the state advised him to use his position to  mobilise resources from various agencies of the Federal Government of which he is a prominent member to show the people of the region he truly loves and cares for them. ‘’The former governor has been playing politics with the issue of insecurity in the state and has come up with a bogus promise that an APC government in Rivers State will tackle the issue of insecurity in Omoku Town and its environs but he has failed to realize that he was in government for eight good years and did not do anything to show the people of Omoku Town or Orashi region that he cared for them. What did he do when other state governors were capturing their people into the amnesty programme of late President Musa Yaradua? How many people from Omoku or other parts of Orashi region were captured in that amnesty programme. Today he is the minister of Transport and is a prominent member of the APC led Federal Government. What has he done for the people using the various agencies of the federal government? The people of Omoku as well as other parts of Orashi region became displaced due to the insecurity that pervaded the region did Rotimi Amaechi call on the National Refugees Commission NRC to come to their aid? Or did he urge the ministry of Youth development or Niger Delta affairs to come to their aid?  It is evil to use the plight of the people to play politics as the former governor has been doing and it is high time we call him to order’’ the statement said.

The assembly also thanked the state governor Barr. Nyesom Wike for his proactive measure which is aimed at eradicating the issue of cultism and other criminal activities in the state. ‘’Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike despite the campaign of calumny against his genuine efforts in the region has shown our people he love and cares for them. We remain grateful to him even as we urge the governor not to relent or give in to the propaganda of the former governor whose policy as governor of the state fostered cultism and insecurity’’.

The Orashi Peoples Consultative Assembly OPCA also called on the Federal government and multi-national oil firms operating in the state to key into the state government’s amnesty programme.

DEFECTIONS: Why Saraki, Dogara Others Must Heed Sen. Ibrahim's Call by Comrade Nwokoma Ndubuisi M.

The gale of defections in the National Assembly last week was followed by an advice from no one else than Sen. Abu Ibrahim that the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and others in the fold of the All Progressives Congress APC that are still masquerading in the party should resign their membership of the party. This call which also implies that they resign their positions as leaders of the various arms of the National Assembly is yet to be complied with by those concerned as at the time of writing this piece Whatever their reasons for still staying put in the party may be, the fact of the matter is that their continued stay in the party has become a sore which must be extricated from the body.  As I watched through the proceedings of the defections on national television, I wept for the country for producing such leaders that lack morality despite all the party has given them politically which they ordin...
