The
Rivers West Development Coalition a socio political group in the state has
protested the recent Board appointments made by the Federal Government
recently.
The
coalition which is made up of the Ijaw Justice Forum IJF and the Council Of
Orashi Ethnic Nationalities COEN after an emergency meeting in Ahoada Rivers
state said the appointments which excluded major contributors to the development
of the All Progressives Congress APC in the state showed that the Federal
Government was insensitive to the people of the region and the contributions
made by the region to the country.
The
communiqué of the coalition which was signed by Ibiye Tom Douglas for Ijaw
Justice Forum IJF and Comrade Nwokoma Messiah for Coalition of Orashi Ethnic Nationalities
COEN specifically decried the overlooking of the likes Sen. Wilson Asinobi Ake and Hon. Asita Asita a deputy governorship candidate of the APC in the 2015 election in the appointments made. The coalition while urging President Muhammadu Buhari
to correct what it termed an oversight in neglecting the likes of Sen. Wilson
Ake and Hon. Asita in the appointments said the region was behind them especially Sen. Ake who they considet as the leader in
the zone and the All Progressives Congress APC in Rivets west senatorial zone.
“Sen.
Wilson Ake and Hon. Asita as far as we are concerned remain the leaders of the party in the
senatorial zone. Any attempt to disparage their persons or neglect them in
appointments into Federal boards and parastatals gives an erroneous impression that the
senatorial zone does not matter to the country despite the huge contributios
it has been making. We believe Mr. President does not intend to give us this
impression and this is why we are calling on him as a father to ensure that the
right thing is done by appointing persons like Sen. Ake, Hon. Asita and others who despite
threat to their lives in the area, stood firm behind the party and the
president” The statement added.
The
statement also called on the leadership of the APC in Rivers state to allowall
stakeholders to benefit
The
Coalition also condemned the recent New Year massacre in Omoku which saw more
than twenty people killed. The statement called on the Federal Government to
ensure that security agents bring those involved in te killings to book. “ We
call on the federal government and the security agencies to bring the culprits
of this dastard act to book to at as deterrent to others especially considering
the fact that we are moving to another year of electioneering campaigns” the
statement added.
