Omoku New Year Killings: Sen. Ake Commiserate With Families Of Departed… Says Ogba Land Will Rise Again
Sen. Wilson Asinobi Ake
has commiserated with the people of Ogbaland over the New Year day massacre
which occurred at Omoku Town in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government of Rivers
State.
Sen. Ake in a press
release made available to newsmen said the attack against innocent citizens who
were celebrating the coming of the New Year was barbaric, idiotic and the height of cowardice
by criminal elements who do not want the Ogba race and the Ogba/ Egbema/ Ndoni local
government to move forward.
Sen. Wilson Ake who
represented the Rivers West Senatorial District from 2007 through 2015 regretted that the scourge of cultism has led to the death of active members of the population. He said it
is time the security agencies in the state sit up and boldly tackle the
issue of cultism, kidnapping and political assassination which has pervaded the
state for long.
He urged the Rivers
state government and other stakeholders in the state to avoid playing politics with
the issue of insecurity in the state which he says is giving the state a bad
reputation.
“Rivers State was once
noted to be among the most peaceful states in the country. It is pathetic and
disappointing that this once peaceful state has fallen into the clutches of
violence and ultra insecurity. We owe it is a duty to condemn this scourge irrespective of our political leaning” he
said.
Sen. Ake while sympathizing
with the families of the departed prayed God Almighty to grant the departed peaceful
rest. He also prayed that those who are left behind be granted the fortitude to
bear the loss “It is a painful thing to lose loved once in such gruesome circumstance
but I pray and believe that God Almighty will grant them peaceful rest while
granting the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss. But one thing is certain
which is the fact that Ogbaland will rise again and this affliction will not
come another time” The statement said.
