The Chairman of Jaiz Bank PLC and foremost banker per excellence
Alhaji Umar Abdul Muttalab CON was recently awarded an Outstanding Public
Service Life Achievement award by the Legislative Writers Forum National Assembly.
The award was in recognition of his efforts in building a strong and virile banking
sector in the country and Africa at large. Abdul Muttalab was the Managing Director
of the United Bank of Africa PLC and later chairman of First Bank PLC.
Mr. Austin Asadu who is the Chairman of the Forum said what
Mr. Muttalab has done for the banking sector is worth celebrating so the
younger generation will be motivated to tow such a line. He praised him for
founding the Jaiz bank PLC which is doing so much especially in the area of non
interest banking. Mr. Asadu assured the recipient that his patriotic efforts at
repositioning the Nigerian banking sector to the position it is today will
never go unsung. “Your sagacity as a banker was always evident in all the places
you found yourself in your illustrious career. We are proud to be associated
with you” Mr. Asadu said
Alhaji Umar Abdul Muuttalab who also holds the Commander of
the Italian Order of Merit while reacting to the award conferred on him said he
was elated and strengthened by the award to continue to do his best for the country
in any position he finds himself. While expressing gratitude to the forum, he said
the award was dear to him and he will always appreciate it.
Dr. Nuruddeen Liman the regional Manager North of the bank
while giving a vote of thanks at the event said the likes of the recipient ought
to be celebrated by Nigerians especially the youths. He said there wouldn’t
have been a better person to be bestowed with such award. “ Alhaji Umar
Muttalab is a man who puts the welfare of others not only his children but other
peoples’ children before his. He gave me my first job and I always want to be
like him” Dr. Nuruddeen stressed.
The Legislative writers Forum Lifetime Achievement Award is
usually bestowed on Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in nation building
efforts.
