The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja today nullified the election of  Senator George Thompson Sekibo  of the Peoples Democratic Party, representing Rivers West Senatorial district.

He  was not the only casualty of the appeals filed by candidates of All Progressives Congress, APC.

Also thrown out of the National Assembly by the Court of Appeal today  was  PDP’s Blessing Nsiegbe, who  represented Port Harcourt Constituency 2 in the Federal House of Representatives. Her election was challenged by the APC candidate, Collins Owhonda. Four other  members of the party in the House of Representatives suffered a similar fate

Kingsley Chinda of the PDP who was representing Obio/Akpor federal constituency
was  floored by Tony Okocha of the APC.

The election of Boniface Emeremgwa  of Ikwerre/Emohua federal constituency was  invalidated by Chidi Whioka of the APC.

Maureen Tamuno of the APC also upturned the election of Bright Gogo in the Okrika/Ogu/Bolo federal constituency. Also successful in his appeal was Ogbonna Nwuke, who  sacked Chief Jerome Amadi, who was representing
Etche/Omuma federal constituency .

The court has ordered the INEC to conduct fresh polls within 90 days.

The Court  will tomorrow also deliver judgment in the appeal filed by  Senator Magnus Abe,APC  against PDP’s  Senator Olaka Wogu for Rivers  East.

A top PDP source  described Sekibo’s sack as “shocking”.

“We are in shock over Senator George Sekibo’s loss at the Court of Appeal. We had considered his matter as one of those already in our pocket. Now that he has been sacked, it means we are not sure of anything”.

The solidarity which the people of the state and APC members showed for the Ogoni born Senator has to be respected by the party unlike what is happening today where the party seems to be favouring the emergence of Tonye Cole all in the bid to please the former governor of t...
