Detention Of Jonathan’s Ex CSO: Group Demands Immediate Release.. Alerts Nigerians On Buhari’s Dictatorship
The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has called for the
immediate release of the former Chief Security Officer to ex-President Goodluck
Ebele Jonathan. The group in the press statement made available to newsmen in
Abuja alerted Nigerians to the dictatorial tendencies of the present
administration under President Muhammadu Buari.
The group in the statement signed by its National Coordiantor
Nwokoma Messiah and Director of Publicity
Amakiri Christiana said Nigerians are now waking up to the reality of the
Buhari’s dictatorship.
The group wondered why the present administration has decided
to engage itself in selective witch hunt when the issue of corruption did not
start today in the country. The NDRO described President Goodluck’s administration
as one of the most transparent in the country but wondered why the Buhari administration
which has a lot of corrupt elements surrounding him has decided to look the other
way in his bid to tackle corruption.
The group said if the present administration is interested in
fighting corruption then it must start from Rivers state where the former
governor Rotimi Amaechi milked the state dry. “It is of no use to start this
posture of anti-corruption with Jonathan’s aides when people like ex-Governor Amaechi
and Bola Tinubu not talking of Adams Oshiomhole though under immunity with
celebrity status as poster child for corruption. This corruption posturing of
the present administration must be seen as holistic if it wants to be taken
serious. Arresting innocent people without bringing up any formal charges
against them amounts to abuse of their rights and we must stand against this if
we must take Nigeria out of the atavistic world of dictatorship. It is standard
practice that you investigate somebody and come up with strong evidence to
prosecute before you arrest and not to arrest somebody before you start
investigations. This is condemnable and we will surely resist it with all legal
and legitimate instruments” the group said.
The NDRO also alerted Nigerians to the fact that more arrests
of Jonathan’s supporters will come up in the coming weeks warning that this
vindictive arrests will be dangerous for the country and its international
image which former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did a lot to shore up.
The detention of the former CSO to ex-President Jonathan
follows that of the former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki rtd and
that of former Jigawa state governor Sule Lamido
