BREAKING: 2 suspects in Dino Melaye’s case, 4 others escape from police custody

The Kogi State Police command has confirmed the escape of two suspects, Kabiru Saidu A.k.a Osama and Nuhu Salisu A.k.a small from police detention one week after accusing the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye of arm sponsorship. Confirming the incident to newsmen on Wednesday in Lokoja; the Kogi State commissioner of Police, Ali Janga said the incident happened at about 3:21am of March 28 as four other suspects namely, Aliyu Isa, Adams Suleiman; Emmanuel Audu, and Musa Mohammed also escaped from police detention. Janga noted that the five Special Anti Robbery Squad office (SARS) and seven conventional police officers on duty have been detained by the command for interrogation. Biafra: Produce Nnamdi Kanu or go to prison – Court warns Senator Abaribe, two others

The Federal High Court in Abuja has asked the three sureties in the trial of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to produce the defendant or risk going to prison. Kanu, who is currently facing trial for alleged treason, was required to be produced in court by his sureties. Kanu’s sureties were Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, a Jewish priest, Immanuu-El Shalom, and an accountant resident in Abuja, Tochukwu Uchendu. However, the IPOB leader has not been seen after since September 2017. Justice Binta Nyako had asked the sureties to produce the defendant. At the resumption of the matter, however, a counsel for the sureties, Chukwuma Machukwu Umeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said his client had not been served with court papers relating to the order made by the judge. Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday asked Fulani leaders in the state to uphold peace and ensure that their children are educated. The governor said this at a meeting with Fulani ardos from the 32 emirates and chiefdoms in the state. He urged them to do their utmost to uphold peace in the state. 2018 election sequence: Senate probes $50,000 bribery allegation

THE Senate, yesterday, frowned on reports that senators have been given   $50,000 bribe to stop plans to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2018 on sequence of election. Consequently, it mandated committee, headed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo East) to carry out a holistic investigation into allegations that some senators and House of Representatives members were being bribed by the executive with $50,000 and $30,000 respectively.   The Senate particularly asked the committee to carry out a thorough investigation on the allegation published in   a national daily of Monday,   March 26, 2018, and report back within one week. Elders in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring as illegal the tenure elongation of national and state executives. Boko Haram: UN allocates N4bn for humanitarian aid in Northeast

The UN has allocated 11 million dollars (about N4 billion) to help 60,000 internally displaced people in Borno and other humanitarian operations in North-East Nigeria. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said nine billion dollars (about N3.2 billion) would be used to provide life-saving aid for some 60,000 people displaced by ongoing Boko Haram crisis in Borno. The UN quoted Mr Edward Kallon, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, as saying: “The crisis continues to displace thousands of vulnerable women, children and men every week. “Many have gone through unspeakable hardship and the UN and its partners remain committed to help alleviate their suffering.’’ Set up through the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), the assistance includes two million dollars (about N720 million) in support to the UN Humanitarian Air Service for frontline responders in the region. “This UN fund give us the flexibility to prioritise those who are mo...

The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has replied Barr. Ezenwo Ezekiel Amadi over his call for the probing of the Rivers State waste Management Agency describing his call as the height of irresponsible criticism. The group also told the former Commissioner for lands that the issue of sanitation is a collective responsibility and not that of RIWAMA alone. The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation NDRO says the expected visit of President Muhammadu Buhari will heighten tension in the state. The group said the visit is apolitical and will not be to the overall interest of Rivers state. The group advised the president to rather ask Governor Nyesom Wike to invite him to come and commission his numerous projects in the state.
