As controversy continues to trail the suspended announcement of the results of the March 23 rd Rives State Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Rivers state, a Coalition of Observer groups that observed the elections in   the state has decried the consistent attacks on the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state Barr. A Coalition of observer groups that observed the February 23rd Presidential and National Assembly elections in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial zone has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to release the results of the National Assembly elections in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial zone without delay. The Coalition in a press statement signed by Comrade Nwokoma Messiah and Peter John said the delay in announcing the results aside being suspicious, can lead to preventable  chaos within the senatorial zone. The observer groups said they witnessed the elections in the zone and stated that it was  generally peaceful. The Coalition of observer groups accredited in Akwa Ibom State have urged Political Parties in the state not to put undue pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC. The group said that what the electoral umpire needs now is to be focused to conduct a free, fair and credible election in the state from Saturday the 23 rd of February 2019. The Nigerian government has reached an agreement with striking University lecturers, raising the possibility of ending the teachers prolonged industrial action. The national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), Biodun Ogunyemi, said the National Executive Committee of the union will review its decisions based on the new commitment by the federal government. He said the strike could only be called off after the NEC meeting. He did not say when the meeting will hold. After the Monday meeting, the labour minister, Chris Ngige, said an agreement had been reached. According to him, the accountant general and the ministry of finance has confirmed with evidence that N15.4 billion had been released to public universities. On earned allowances, Mr Ngige said President Buhari has approved N20 billion to be used to offset the outstanding arrears of the 2009 to 2012 verified earnings in the universities.
