I’ve no plan to join APC, says Ayade

The Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has dismissed a report that he is planning to join the All Progressives Congress.

Ayade, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, said a statement credited to one Okoi Obono-Obla that he would leave the PDP to join the APC was not true.

According to a statement by Ayade’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, on Thursday, the governor is a “full and committed member” of the PDP and has no intention to dump his party.

Ita said it was the APC in the state and Obono-Obla that were desperately trying to cajole the governor to “join their party given his sterling performance since assuming office.”

The governor’s spokesperson said the fact that the governor had a very good relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari did not, in any way, suggest he planned to join the APC.

Ita also dismissed a claim by Obono-Obla that the governor was behind the declaration of one Venatius Ikem wanted by the police over alleged theft of government property and attempted murder.

The statement read, “In a recent briefing with newsmen, the governor stated in very clear terms that he is a member of the PDP. The fact that the governor has a very good relationship with President Buhari does not, in any way, suggest he wants to join the APC.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Ayade has no hand in the declaration of Venatius Ikem wanted for alleged theft and attempted murder by the police.

“Obla’s claim is, therefore, an attempt to blackmail the governor. Rather than try to distract the public by maligning the governor, I urge Obla, who claims to be a lawyer, to advise his client to honour the invitation of the police and clear his name if he is innocent.

“I will also advise Obla that he should devote his energy towards the cleansing of his party in the state which has now become a haven for outlaws.”

DEFECTIONS: Why Saraki, Dogara Others Must Heed Sen. Ibrahim's Call by Comrade Nwokoma Ndubuisi M.

The gale of defections in the National Assembly last week was followed by an advice from no one else than Sen. Abu Ibrahim that the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and others in the fold of the All Progressives Congress APC that are still masquerading in the party should resign their membership of the party. This call which also implies that they resign their positions as leaders of the various arms of the National Assembly is yet to be complied with by those concerned as at the time of writing this piece Whatever their reasons for still staying put in the party may be, the fact of the matter is that their continued stay in the party has become a sore which must be extricated from the body.  As I watched through the proceedings of the defections on national television, I wept for the country for producing such leaders that lack morality despite all the party has given them politically which they ordin...
