The Youth Say Yes Initiative For Change YSYIC has kicked against
plans to blackmail the Senate President Sen. Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of
the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara.
The group in a press statement made available to newsmen in
Abuja and signed by its National Coordinator Comrade Nwokoma Messiah said there
is an orchestrated plan by elements in the All Progressives Congress APC to
blackmail the leadership of both Arms of the National Assembly.
The group said it was reacting to the publication in the
Nation Newspapers titled “How Oil Barons, Others Hijacked Senate, House
Elections” the story alleged that the emergence of Saraki and Dogara was
through the sponsorship of oil marketers and corrupt politicians who have corrupt
deeds to hide.
The group said the publication was laughable and misleading
because it shows the desperation by the sponsors of such story. The group warned
that the APC as a party which promised change must be seen to be playing
progressive politics and not politics of retrogression as played by those
against the emergence of Saraki and Dogara.
The group described the duo as credible leaders whose
credibility led to their nomination as flag bearers of the party at the last
general elections. It wondered why the credibility of these same persons will
now be questioned just because they defeated the anointed candidates of the
party. “this is an ugly development that must be condemned by all lovers of
democracy and Mr. President must call such desperate politicians to order
because he remains the defacto leader of the party” the group said.
The Youth Say Yes Initiative For Change praised President
Buhari’s stance on the leadership issue in the National Assembly while urging
those aggrieved to come to terms with reality instead of looking for ways to
rock the boat due to selfish reasons. “It is imperative that those fighting
Saraki and Dogara must wake up to the reality on ground by accepting the fact
that they cannot always win. Employing blackmail to tarnish their image will
not do the party any good” the statement added.
