As the Corona virus pandemic
continues to ravage the globe leading to various policies put in place to
prevent its widespread, the Civil Society Response Team in Nigeria has hailed
the Nasarawa Police Command for the efficient ways it has employed in helping
the government enforce its policies leading to the low incidence of the Corona
virus in the state.
The Response team which
is partnering with United Nations Children and Education Fund (UNICEF), World
Health Organisation WHO and the National Centre For Disease Control NCDC to
kickstart the community to community sensitization campaign in some local
government areas in Nasarawa state said the enforcement of the global protocol
on the prevention of the spread of the pandemic is important as the virus
continues to soar high.
It said the fact that
Nasarawa state especially Karu Local Government area is proximate to the
Federal Capital Territory entails that the enforcements are important to
prevent inter state transmission and that the state government and the state Police Command should be highly
commended for taking proactive steps to curtail the spread of the virus in the
state.

Longe the Commissioner of Police in the state is a perfect gentleman who has
reined it on his officers on how to enforce the protocols without resorting to
human rights abuses as reported in order areas. The Area Commander in Karu
Local Government Area is also doing a very good job because despite the
proximity of the area and the lockdown that occasioned the initial response to
the pandemic as well as the curfew, it is on record that there were no
celebrated cases of human rights abuses. This is commendable” the statement
added.
The Response team said it
will be going round the state to observe the level of compliance in schools
when they reopen partially as announced by the government as well as hotels,
worship places and markets among others. It said the all what will be collated
on the field by its team of observers will for the basis of recommendations
that will be sent to the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19 for action.
