A Non Governmental organizsation known as the Parliamentary Rights Agenda PRA has condemned what it describes as a deliberate and malicious plot to align the person of Hon. Maigari Bello-Kasimyu. The group in a press statement signed by its Director of Publicity Abubakar Adah in reaction to media reports that is making the rounds that Hon. Bello- Kasimu who represents the people of Jalingo/ Yorro/ Zing federal constituency donated wheelbarrows to members of his constituency as part of his constituency projects said the report that greeted the whole kind gesture of the aide of the parliamentarian Saidu Giwa Na-annabi to the association of wheelbarrow pushers that visited him was hijacked by mischief makers to ridicule, malign and discredit the member of the 9th National Assembly who has done a lot of unreported good works for his constituents.
The group reminded
those that sponsored the story against the member to remember that the members
of the 9th National Assembly have not spent more than 100 days in
office and are yet to receive any constituency funds for any projects aside
their salaries and allowances. “How then did they get the story about
constituency funds when the National Assembly has not received any from the
government if not for the fact that people want to be mischievous?” While calling on the media to guide their reportage on issues, the group urged Nigerian youths engaged in meaningful activities not to be ashamed of what they do in as much as it is not criminal in nature.
The group condemned the
reporters who have been posting the stories on their sites and the social media platforms stressing that it
was against the principles of media practice for stories to be published
without verification. ‘How can a reputable media house publish such malicious
report against a serving member who they can easily verify any story from fail
to do the needful? This is pure media blackmail which must be corrected the
statement said.
While hailing the
efforts of every Nigerian youth that has chosen to engage in productive
activities as the Wheelbarrow Pushers Association are engaged, the
Parliamentary Rights Agenda said as much as it should not be seen to be holding
brief for anybody, it believes that the P.R.O of Hon. Bello- Kasimu should not
be seen to have done something abnormal because the members of the association were given the
wheelbarrows based on what they requested for. ‘Were the authors of the malicious
story expecting the member to build a skyscraper for them? Why didn’t they
report about the exam fees he paid for students and the assistance he is giving
to poor women and widows within his constituency? The report of what he did was
not out of place and must be respected as much as we must respect all youths
that are engaged in meaningful activities like the average wheelbarrow pushers
that are neglected.
