As the world gets set
to celebrate the third anniversary of the signing of the Sustainable
Development Goals SDG of the United Nations, the International Association of
World Peace Advocates IAWPA a partner of the United Nations has concluded plans
to honour eminent Nigerians whose contributions in their various endeavours
have contributed to the promotion of peace in their various states and the
country at large.
The association in a
press statement signed by its International spokesman Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke said
a former Executive Director of the National Food Reserve Agency NFRA and
Coordinator of the Songhai Farm in Katsina State Dr. Salisu Ingawa from Katsina
state will be among eminent Nigerians that will be honoured by the association.
The statement said the Katsina born technocrat has done so much for the
development of the agricultural sector which has helped boost food provision in
the country thereby meeting the ZERO HUNGER expectation of the SDG.
The statement also that
the group has painstakingly selected seventeen Nigerian governors whose plans
and policies have helped the cause of the Sustainable Development Goals SDG in
the last three years. “Seventeen Nigerian governors will also be honoured on
the day we will be celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the SDG on
Tuesday the 25th of September 2018 at the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja”.
IAWPA decried the
reference of Nigeria as the headquarters of poverty in the world by the Prime
Minister of the United Kingdom. It said rather than duel on such reference,
Nigerians must react positively by embracing the 17 goals that are in the SDG. “We
can make a statement to the world that even if they may see us as the
headquarters of poverty in the world, we can bounce out by ensuring that sound
plans and policies are put in place to ensure we come out greater. This is
achievable and we are proud to honour Nigerians who have contributed so much to
better the lots of their fellow Nigerians”. The statement said.
The Sustainable
Development Goals was signed by member countries of the United Nations in 2015.
It is the successor to the Millenium development Goals MDG which lasted from
the year 2000 to 2015. The SDG is expected to last till 2030 and Nigeria which
is seen as failing on the goals have been enjoined to do more to achieve the
goals before 2030.
