Ndigbo have forgiven Niger Delta for civil war betrayal — Evah

COORDINATOR of Ijaw Monitoring Group, Comrade Joseph Evah in this interview calls for unity of purpose among political leaders of the Niger Delta extraction. He opines that with a common voice, the long expected development of the region may become realistic. What is your perception of the state of the nation? The way the Federal Government is handling the Biafra agitation in the East is very dangerous. They are taking the wrong steps by ignoring the agitations that are going on. For the first time since the end of the civil war, we are seeing an organised agitation. The Igbo man cannot ordinarily abandon his business for something else, but now we are seeing Igbo men leaving their businesses in order to agitate. That tells you that they are serious. Seeing them sacrificing their time, energy and money, should be enough to make the Federal Government interested in the matter.  Threats by the army, are not acceptable. We expect the government to tell us why they a...

This was the resolution of the concerned stakeholders who converged on the National Theater, Iganmu, Lagos, on Friday to mark the 20th anniversary of the execution of environmental activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa and others during their struggles for environmental justice. Bayelsa 2015: Group Kicks Against Violence, Campaign of Calumny

Ahead of the December 5 th Governorship election in Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation has urged all stakeholders in the state to eschew violence and campaign of calumny against perceived political enemies. The group while making an assessment of the campaigns so far said there was a deliberate ploy by individuals and groups loyal to the various candidates to paint perceived political enemies in bad light so as to foster the acceptability of their candidates. The NDRO described this kind of politics as not being the best kind of politics for the state. The group particularly urged the media team of the Bayelsa state governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to call his men to order. The group said the media team of the governor has been engaged in unnecessary character assassination of some accomplished Bayelsans who are not even  partisan in their disposition but have been perceived to be so due to their distancing themselves from hi...

Diezani: Life as a cancer patient

What you are about to read is probably the most anticipated story of the year birthed in the long awaited authoritative investigative newspaper of the future. This pregnant saga fell into labour last week in the pre-natal wing of Pendulum ward  and it has now given birth to a big bouncing baby christened, The Boss. This is an apt metaphor for the melodramatic scoop which is the cover of the first edition of what I believe will be a catalyst for unbiased investigative reporting in Nigeria. The Boss had long been conceptualised as a  leadership newspaper to occupy the void created by lack of true and credible investigative journalism in some traditional and online media. The original plan was to launch in December or early January. But the Diezani-Alison Madueke story changed all that. It was too compelling to restrict to the Pendulum column alone.  And here we are with what promises to be an exciting addition to the media landscape in Nigeria and b...

Bayelsa poll: Southern Ijaw communities defy downpour to receive Dickson

The Governor during his three-day community to community campaign, visited Koluama I and II, Foropa, Ukubie, Ogboinbiri, Olugbobiri and Korokorosei, Igbomotoru, Peremabiri and Azuzuama. Meanwhile, Hope Democratic Party (HDP) has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, asking it to abort the governorship election. In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/904/2015, the party urged the court to nullify the election guidelines and timetable released by INEC on July 10, 2015, on the ground that they offended section 153 and 159 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. Aside HDP, the suit which was equally endorsed by Chief Bulus Wombu and Hon. King George as co-plaintiffs , has INEC as the sole defendant. In all the communities visited, the people came out in their numbers to give the campaign train a rousing reception with drumming, singing and dancing to solidarity songs. Commending the Governor for his developmental strides, especially the on-going Yenagoa-Oporoma ...
