Obasanjo Tore An Expired Card- PDP

Two weeks after former President Olusegun Obasanjo tore his Peoples Democratic Party membership card, the party claimed on Tuesday that the card being held by the former President had expired. It said that the card hitherto owned by Obasanjo was signed by the party’s former Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Kawu Baraje. Baraje has since left the party and he is now a chieftain of the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress. While declaring his leaving the party, Obasanjo had asked the Chairman of the PDP in his ward at Abeokuta, Mr. Usman Oladunjoye, to tear his membership card. Commenting on Obasanjo’s action, the National Secretary of the party, Dr. Wale Oladipo, said the card had been changed. Oladipo spoke during a courtesy call on him by some students, who claimed to be working for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan. He said the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, and himself signed the current cards being used by the part...

My Ibo Brothers Please Before We Are Deceived

I just listened with concern to an All Progressives Congress APC inspired news commentary and propaganda aimed at swaying Ibo support for General Muhammadu Buhari’s Presidential ambition. The commentary which was aired in the Imo state Broadcasting Corporation IBC, made a lot of claim about how the people of Niger Delta especially the Ijaws have been perennial betrayals to the cause of the people of Ndi Igbo. The   writer during the course of his highly uninformed commentary sought to give the Ibos a false hope that General Muhammadu Buhari will go for only a term in office after which he will hand over to an Ibo son as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. After listening to his piece, my concern became very palpable when one of my good friends whom I respect very well came around my house to inform me that he is ditching the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan project for the Buhari project because he believes that the Ibos are likely to get the presidency faster under the...

Nigeria's Aiyegbeni hopes to end career in England

Yakubu Aiyegbeni says he enjoys life at Reading and is planning to end his career in England. The Nigerian striker, who has also played for Middlesbrough, Everton and Portsmouth, moved to the Championship side on transfer deadline on a short-term deal. Aiyegbeni came off the bench to score his first goal for the Royals in the FA Cup against Derby on February 14. “Since I came here I’ve loved every moment and all the people here are fantastic,” the 32-year-old told BBC Sport. “To score an important goal in the FA Cup was good, but it would not have been possible without the lads, staff and fans. “It’s an environment that makes you feel very welcome so I’m really enjoying it at Reading.” Aiyegbeni turned down offers from Europe, MLS and UAE to return to England and he explained why. “It was a great opportunity to return to this country because I have never played in front of my kids,” he said. “It’s a fantastic chance and being reunited with the family has also helped me a ...

Interim government: “We Won’t Allow Nigeria To Be a Pariah State” –President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said the insinuations   that he was planning to put in place an Interim National Government instead of ensuring the sanctity of the May 29 handover date amounted to treason. He said the only ING that could be put in place was that of the military which,   according to him, will not be accepted by Nigerians and the international community. Jonathan spoke during the opening mass for the plenary assembly of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria   at   Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Garki, Abuja. The President again assured all stakeholders in the political process that the general elections would hold on the rescheduled dates of March 28 and April 11 and the winners   inaugurated on May 29. He said, “There is no way Goodluck Jonathan, elected by the people with a clear mandate, will   go and head an interim government. “The only ING anybody can constitut...
