PDP Loses It’s Majority Status At The Senate As APC wins 64 seats

    The result of the National Assembly election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday has pushed the opposition All Progressives Congress to the majority status in the 109 membership Senate. Before the election, the Peoples Democratic Party enjoyed the majority status in the red chamber with 64 members while the APC has 41. Other parties, like the Labour Party, the Accord Party and the Social Democratic Party, shared the remaining five seats. The APC will now have 64 senators; the PDP, 45; and the Labour Party, one. The development, our correspondent observed, will obviously alter the configuration of the Senate leadership in the 8th Senate which would be inaugurated in June this year, because the opposition APC which is currently in the minority, would constitute the principal officers. President-elect to emerge today –Jega

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that despite the extension of Saturday’s elections till Sunday in some parts of the country, the results of the presidential poll will be declared on Monday(today). INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, gave the assurance   as some of results from wards, local government areas and states continued to emerge on Sunday. For instance, results from Osun and Ogun states showed the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, defeating President Goodluck Jonathan. But in Ekiti State, Jonathan had an easy ride as he beat the APC candidate. Jega, who gave journalists an update on the conduct of the polls in Abuja, said that as of Sunday evening, results of the elections had only been completely collated in two states, one of which was Ekiti. Oro Youths Accuse Nigerian Maritime Academy Boss of Sexual Harrassment, Misapplication of Funds wriiten by our reporter

  Youths under the aegis of Akpakip Oro Youths Vanguard have called on the President through the Minister of Transport to immediately relieve the rector of the Nigerian Maritme Academy, Oron Mr. Joshua Okpo of his appointment. The youths who made the call in a letter addressed to the Minister of Transport Senator Idris Umar and made available to newsmen titled “SAVE MARITIME ACADEMY OF NIGERIA, ORON FROM COLLAPSE AND MALADMINISTRATION OF MR. JOSHUA E. OKPO” said the appointment of Mr. Okpo as rector of the academy was fraudulent. They accused him of high handedness.
